“The taste of river snails is interesting, even more delicious than vintage wine.” On April 5, 2021 Zhishan Xigu Cultural Tourism Festival and Jingqiao River Snails Festival kicked off in Caozhuang, Jingqiao Zhishan Village, attracting thousands of tourists to enjoy the beautiful countryside and to taste small river snails, which are known as “extremely fresh in spring”.

In addition to garlic, spicy, egg yolk, soy sauce, sauerkraut and other flavors of small snails amounting to more than 8,000 kilograms, the activity also included singing and dancing, cross talk, folk performances, “grain transport” competition, ceramic DIY, and “picking up small river snails” competition. Visitors could enjoy an audio-visual feast while tickling their taste buds.

It is the best time for river snails to be sold on the market. It tastes delicious, rich in calcium, magnesium, iron, selenium and other trace elements. It is a natural green product with high protein and low fat, known as “popular abalone”. Compared with other places, Jingqiao's river snails are more extraordinary. They are large with thin shell, plump and round, rich in nutrition, and in good quality. They are natural green healthy foods with high protein and low fat.

The event was crowded with various stalls along the way, including dozens of agricultural and sideline products such as Caozhuang “Nanjing 46” selenium-rich rice, Zhushang Yunxiang handmade taro noodle, and creative products with local characteristics.

Caozhuang Selenium-enriched Ecological Park in Jingqiao Town is based on selenium-enriched ecological and healthy agricultural products, and introduced the team of Professor Pan Genxing from the Institute of Resource, Ecosystem and Environment of Agriculture of Nanjing Agricultural University as technical support to integrate primary, secondary and tertiary industries to promote the development of healthy agricultural economy. At present, the Ecological Park has planted more than 1,500 mu of green selenium-enriched rice, more than 700 mu of characteristic high-quality selenium-enriched fruits, 100 mu of green selenium-enriched tribute tea, and 30 mu of green selenium-enriched vegetables. It also supports tourism industries such as restaurants, homestays, wine cellars, porcelain kilns, and tofu factories. It has embarked on a new path of mutually beneficial symbiosis and harmonious development of ecological sightseeing tourism and characteristic agriculture.

“Since 2020, Jingqiao Town has successfully held two River Snails Festivals, and the popularity and reputation have been increasing. Every spring, tourists come to Jingqiao to smell and taste river snails. The River Snails Festivals are combined with food and culture, promoting global tourism development, and promoting primary, secondary and tertiary industries integration development on the tip of the tongue. They embark on a characteristic road to promote rural revitalization and accelerate the construction of Jingqiao health industry.” A leader of Jingqiao Town said.

Jingqiao Town is the core area of healthy Lishui and the health care industry practice base of Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang. At present, famous tourist areas such as FengXiangLing-ShiShanXia Village,Wangyou Valley-Crystal Village, Caozhuang Selenium-rich Ecological Park have been built. The forest area of Jingqiao Town is 6710 hectares, and the forest coverage rate is 49.6%, ranking first among all the streets and towns in Nanjing. The water resources in the town are very rich. More than 10 rivers, lakes and reservoirs such as Xinqiao River, Yunhe Lake, Yaojia Lake and Xiangshan Reservoir run through the town. There are more than 5,400 ponds and dams, and the total water area of the town is 27,000 mu. In recent years, Jingqiao Town has systematically planned to build beautiful homes with clear water, green shores, and beautiful scenery, creating high-quality Class III water like a beautiful landscape picture of “fish in the water, green in the scenery”.
