Planting selenium-rich rice, cultivating a prosperous village Recently, the 2024 Rural Revitalization and Industrial Development Forum and China's Most Beautiful Villages and Towns Awards Ceremony were held in Shanghai. After a rigorous selection process, Zhishan Village in Jingqiao Town, Li Shui District, emerged as the recipient of the "2024 Harmonious Prosperity Achievement Award" for China's Most Beautiful Villages and Towns.

The "China's Most Beautiful Villages and Towns" selection event has been successfully held for 12 years with strong support from relevant departments such as the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and China Advertising Association. The event attracted more than 200 participants, including village representatives from over 20 provinces and cities nationwide.

Zhishan Village is a border village located in the southeast of Nanjing, with abundant ecological resources. However, for a long time, the village was plagued by stone quarries, resulting in a poor environment and many villagers seeking work elsewhere. In recent years, Zhishan Village has established a comprehensive cooperative led by the Party branch, implementing a large-scale operation model of "Party branch + cooperative + farmers." They have developed a multi-functional "selenium-rich ecological" industrial park that integrates primary, secondary, and tertiary industries based on selenium-rich ecologically healthy agricultural products, with all villagers becoming members of the cooperative.

To promote selenium-rich ecological agriculture, Zhishan Village has collaborated with Professor Pan Genxing's team from Nanjing Agricultural University to advance the "charcoal-based selenium valley and health-preserving rural soil" model. They utilize charcoal-based circular ecological healthy technology to recycle waste from breeding enterprises and increase the selenium content in agricultural products. Li Qijun, the Party Secretary of Zhishan Village, introduced that the selenium-rich organic rice produced by the cooperative can be sold for 24 yuan per kilogram. In addition, selenium-rich rice, fruits, tribute tea, vegetables, and other agricultural products are also popular in the market, with an annual sales revenue of nearly tens of millions of yuan. It is estimated that the villagers' income from employment, land rentals, and dividends in the cooperative will reach 7.5 million yuan this year, and the collective income of Zhishan Village will reach 12 million yuan.

These measures have transformed the face of Zhishan Village. Once a secluded and backward village, it has now become a "social media-famous village" that attracts over 300,000 tourists annually. It has explored a new path to increase villagers' income through collective economy and has been selected as one of the top ten exemplary cases in Jiangsu Province's "Practices for Common Prosperity in Villages."
