Li Shui, Nanjing: Spring Breeze Brings Warmth and Bookishness, Reading Nurtures Children's Hearts

In order to effectively care for the children of migrant workers and left-behind children, spread reading care, and promote high-quality development of reading among the entire population, Li Shui District continues to expand the social impact of the "Spring Breeze Action for National Reading" and deepen the construction of "Bookish Li Shui". On January 13th, the 2025 Li Shui District "Spring Breeze Action for National Reading," organized by the Li Shui District Committee's Propaganda Department and the Li Shui District People's Reading Promotion Association, and hosted by the Li Shui District Printing Industry Association and the Nanjing Lantai Advertising Technology Co., Ltd., was launched in Yongyang Street.

Books add a festive atmosphere and the spring breeze warms children's hearts. At the event, the Propaganda Department of the District Committee, together with member enterprises of the District Printing Industry Association, presented "Bookish Gift Packs" to student representatives. The gift packs not only included school bags and books but also various learning materials, allowing books to accompany their growth and truly make children fall in love with reading and enjoy it.

This year, Li Shui District has extensively gathered social forces to donate "Bookish Gift Packs" and children's books worth 30,000 yuan to special groups such as rural left-behind children, urban migrant children, and children from disadvantaged families. The initiative benefited 100 students from 8 towns and streets in the district, aiming to warm children's hearts with books and encourage young people to "bring good books home for the Lunar New Year", so that the fragrance of books can enter thousands of households in Li Shui.

To inspire more children to read classics, acquire knowledge and strength from books, calligraphers from the Delightful Academy also brought their calligraphic masterpieces. Calligrapher Rao Jinlong, a member of the Chinese Calligraphers Association and a specially appointed calligrapher of the Jiangsu Provincial Calligraphy Institute, used inspirational calligraphy works such as "Strive for Progress," "Review the Old to Learn the New," "Heaven Rewards Diligence," and "Aim High" to encourage young people to read more books and good books and to grow healthily in the immersion of bookishness. Zhang Baisheng, the Deputy Minister of the Propaganda Department of the District Committee, and Liao Fukang, the Director of the Delightful Academy, presented their heartfelt blessings to the children, conveying affection through books and delivering blessings through calligraphic masterpieces. "I hope that these meaningful calligraphy works will allow every child to feel the power of knowledge in the fragrance of books and find a stage to chase their dreams," said Rao Jinlong.

At the Warm Winter Market, booths for writing couplets and giving out antithetical couplets attracted many residents to stop and participate. Calligraphers wielded their brushes, creating spring couplets filled with bookishness and characters of "福" (good fortune) filled with genuine feelings, expressing hopes and expectations for the new year.

Between the strokes of the brush, the "giving of blessings" and the "receiving of blessings" seamlessly connected. As people discussed the meanings and selected their favorite couplets, the atmosphere became lively. A citizen holding a couplet given by a calligrapher joyfully said, "The vast sea of books is endless, and the fragrance of ink lasts for a thousand years. This couplet not only has beautiful characters but also carries good meanings. It has a strong cultural atmosphere. I will give it to my family."

The event also set up a green reading promotion booth, where staff provided children with knowledge about "protecting seedlings" and "green bookmarks," as well as how to identify illegal pirated publications and harmful information. They also gave out excellent genuine books on-site. Student Zhang Zihan said, "Through the introduction, I have learned a lot about green reading. I will consciously abide by the ethical norms of the Internet, not purchase pirated publications, and choose healthy and beneficial reading content."

This event is a concrete practice of Li Shui District's "Spring Breeze Action for National Reading," providing more care and support for the children of migrant workers and left-behind children, allowing them to feel the charm of reading and allowing the seeds of reading to take root and sprout in their hearts. In the future, Li Shui District will continue to carry out a series of activities under the "Spring Breeze Action for National Reading," fully extending the tentacles of precise cultural services to communities, families, and schools where special groups are located, bridging the "last mile" of public cultural services, and fully promoting the construction of "Bookish Li Shui," making "national reading" a prevalent trend.
