Recently, the China Rural Professional and Technical Association announced the latest batch of national-level technology hubs, and the Lishui Qingmei Technology Hub in Jiangsu Province was successfully selected, becoming the first national-level technology hub in Lishui. This marks a key step forward in the technological empowerment of the Qingmei industry in Lishui District.

The Jiangsu Lishui Qingmei Technology Hub is located in the Jiaogang Mountain Natural Village of Dacun, Jingqiao Town. It is jointly established by the Jiangsu Provincial Association for Science and Technology, Nanjing Agricultural University, Nanjing Municipal Association for Science and Technology, and Lishui District Association for Science and Technology. Dacun in Jingqiao Town boasts a favorable geographical location and a strong scientific atmosphere. The village is home to fruit-growing bases such as the Fujing Yangmei Garden and the Longyin Bay Ecological Agricultural Park, and it is surrounded by numerous specialty fruit production bases, making it ideal for establishing a technology hub focused on fruit trees in hilly areas. “Currently, facilities such as graduate dormitories for the technology hub have been completed in our village, creating favorable conditions for the settlement of high-quality talent,” said Chen Chao, Secretary of the Party General Branch in Dacun. With active connections from Lishui District’s Association for Science and Technology and strong support from provincial and municipal associations, the Jiangsu Lishui Qingmei Technology Hub successfully established itself in Dacun in December 2024, becoming the first provincial-level technology hub in Lishui. It has brought in Professor Gao Zhihong, a chief expert in Qingmei from across the country, to lead a team of graduate students who will be stationed there long-term. The technology hub promotes a development model of “Party Branch + Technology Hub + Cooperative + Farmers,” implementing a service model of “zero distance, zero time difference, zero threshold, and zero cost.” It aims to construct a technology innovation model centered on the technology hub, serving Dacun, Jingqiao, and radiating throughout the district, effectively bridging the “last mile” from research to practice.

“Our village, supported by the development of new rural collective economic projects in Lishui District, has built a technology hub that serves as a bridge for scientific achievements to transition from laboratories to the fields,” Chen Chao explained. Dacun has successfully applied for the 2024 Lishui District support program for the development of new rural collective economic projects, receiving a total of 1.7 million yuan from central, provincial, municipal, and district financial subsidies. This funding will be primarily used to revitalize and utilize idle houses, upgrading and renovating the stored idle residential buildings in Jiaogang Mountain Natural Village, including one technology hub and four residential buildings, covering a total renovation area of approximately 1,226 square meters.

The Jingqiao Town Party Committee has strictly overseen project selection, review, and supervision, maximizing the “multiplier effect” of projects. They are rigorously validating and selecting projects, implementing them precisely, and improving various security mechanisms to promote project construction with high standards and quality, guided by Party building. The technology hub features an exhibition room, offices, meeting rooms, research rooms, dormitories, a kitchen, and more, creating a technological service platform that integrates agricultural technology innovation, new technology promotion, and the cultivation of local talents to support rural revitalization.

“To promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements and build a complete industrial chain for the Qingmei industry, we are constructing a primary processing center, storage center, and sorting center for Qingmei, covering nearly 3,000 square meters,” Chen Chao mentioned. With strong support from the agricultural and rural departments in the urban area, the primary processing center for Qingmei has been completed and put into operation. A strategic partnership has been established with a well-known Qingmei processing and export enterprise in Yixing, introducing advanced production lines, allowing products to be exported to international markets such as Japan and South Korea. Once the project is fully completed, it will become the largest primary processing center for Qingmei in Lishui District, with an expected annual processing capacity of 1,500 tons and an annual output value of up to 30 million yuan. This will generate rental income of 300,000 yuan annually for the village collective and create local employment opportunities for 50 villagers.

The technology hub represents a new model that closely integrates “industry, academia, research, and application,” playing an important role in innovating agricultural technology, cultivating agricultural technology talents, and promoting agricultural technology dissemination. “The approval of the national-level Qingmei Technology Hub not only affirms our previous efforts but also brings a heavy responsibility,” said a relevant official from Lishui District. They will further deepen cooperation with universities and enterprises, actively build a bridge connecting scientific workers with farmers, tailor approaches to local conditions, and leverage the unique characteristics and developmental advantages of the Qingmei industry in Lishui. The goal is to utilize the technology hub to cultivate excellent varieties, tightly integrate innovative technologies with production practices, promote the integration of industry, academia, and research, and facilitate the transformation of scientific achievements. This will drive the integration of Qingmei cultivation with cultural and tourism industries, supporting the high-quality development of the Qingmei industry in Lishui District, and making the “small Qingmei” a true “golden fruit” that boosts income and prosperity for the community, providing powerful momentum for rural revitalization.
