A spring breeze brings warmth, and the fragrance of books nourishes hearts. On the afternoon of January 17, the scent of ink intertwined with festive New Year atmosphere in the Children's Library of the Dongping Subdistrict New Era Civilization Practice Center in Lishui District, Nanjing. The 2026 "Reading Spring Breeze" Initiative for All in Lishui District officially commenced under the theme "Book Fragrance Adds to New Year Spirit, Spring Breeze Warms Children's Hearts." As the "practical frontline" for Lishui District to implement the "Regulations on Promoting Reading for All," this event centered on a three-dimensional system of "Book Fragrance + New Year Spirit + Protecting Young Minds" to deepen and solidify reading for all.
At the event, reading promoter and Dongping Primary School teacher Kong Yuan led children in reading classical poems such as "New Year's Day" and "Snow on New Year's Eve," as well as festival-themed picture books like "Celebrating the New Year," through storytelling and interactive Q&A sessions. This allowed children to understand, through interaction, the wisdom of the passage of time in "Amidst the sound of firecrackers, the old year departs," the tradition of praying for blessings in "Always replacing old peach charms with new ones," and the agricultural cultural significance of "Timely snow foretells a good harvest."
A "Green Reading" initiative was launched on-site. Through a "Pirated vs. Authentic Book Comparison" mini-game, children learned to identify authentic books by observing details like "differences in paper color" and "text blurriness" in a "spot the difference" activity. The event also invited Lian Qingming, a representative inheritor of Lishui's intangible cultural heritage, to guide children in molding traditional elements like dumplings and the Zodiac horse from clay, allowing them to experience New Year customs through hands-on practice.
Organizers presented the attending children with a "Bookish Gift Pack" containing classic books, school bags, stationery, and inspirational calligraphy works, encouraging young people to cultivate good reading habits and convey New Year blessings through the aroma of ink and fragrance of books.
With the Spring Festival approaching, guided by the "Regulations on Promoting Reading for All" and seizing the opportunity of the Reading for All Activity Week, Lishui District will focus on key groups such as youth, rural residents, and Party members and cadres, implementing five major measures: presenting bookish gift packs and inspirational calligraphy works to youth; mobilizing university students returning home to conduct "Welcoming the New Year with Books" themed reading volunteer services; producing "Book Recommendations" micro-videos and launching a "Reading Has Li" column; continuously enhancing the "One Subdistrict/Town, One Specialty" district-wide reading brand, cultivating grassroots reading backbone forces, and promoting balanced supply of reading resources; and leveraging reading spaces like rural libraries, combined with local human history and industrial characteristics, to conduct targeted thematic sharing sessions, extending reading services to the grassroots and making the fragrance of books Lishui's most moving New Year flavor and the warmest backdrop of daily life.
It is reported that Lishui District has consistently nurtured reading for all over the years, establishing an ecological system of "provincial-municipal linkage, district-level innovation, and grassroots rooting." It has created deeply resonant brand activities like the Poetry Conference, "Famous Masters and Teachers Lecture Series," and "Reading with Su Chao." Among these, "Reading with Su Chao" integrates agricultural, cultural, tourism, sports, and commercial resources through a "competition + reading" model, having held 16 series of events with over 50 million online views. The theme activity "Ode to Spring—Let's Read Poetry Together" garnered over 202,000 online views. Diverse and content-rich activities like photo contests, study tours, and storytelling competitions have upgraded reading from one-way dissemination to two-way interaction. They foster a strong social atmosphere of "loving, reading good, and reading well," truly integrating the "Fragrant Books Lishui" brand into people's lives and making it the most moving cultural calling card.
